Seismic bearing capacity of a strip footing on rock media

The bearing capacity factors for a rough strip footing placed on rock media, which is subjected to pseudo-static horizontal earthquake body forces, have been determined using the lower bound finite element limit analysis in conjunction with power cone programming (PCP). mass assumed follow generalized Hoek-Brown (GHB) yield criterion. No assumption needs be made smoothen GHB criterion and convergence found achieve quite rapidly while performing optimization usage of PCP. While incorporating variation acceleration coefficient (kh), effect changes unit weight (?), ground surcharge pressure (q0) associated material shear strength parameters (geological index (GSI), parameter (mi), uniaxial compressive (?ci)) has thoroughly assessed. Non-dimensional charts developed design purpose. accuracy present duly checked by comparing obtained results different solutions reported literature. failure patterns also examined detail.
